Stuart McLean was a story teller who took the
ordinary and made it extraordinary.
His stories shared on CBC Radio’s The Vinyl Café
and through his books reminded us of what was best
about ourselves. Millions tuned in to his new
stories every week, and he filled theatres and
concert halls across Canada and the US to hear him
perform humourous tales involving his stories of
everyday Canadians. These took form through his
favourite 'family', Dave and Morley and their
children Stephanie and Sam.
Tall Grass Prairie Bread Company is honoured that
in 2006 he wrote a story about how our bakery
began. Read it here: www.tallgrassbakery.ca/history.html

Try Baba’s Steppe Sandwich
Baba's Tall Grass Pantry Steppe Sandwich, named
after the grasslands of Eastern Europe, with a nod
to the Canadian prairies, is nitrate-free!
In selecting a local sausage-maker, we insisted on
avoiding the nitrates many of us are concerned
about. A delicious combination of Manitoba pork
and beef along with flavourful spices make these
farmers' sausages special. Nestled on a fresh
organic bun from Tall Grass Prairie Bread Company,
you may want to garnish your Steppe Sandwich with
caramelized onions, sauerkraut, ketchup and
mustard, which are all house-made, plus a pickle
from Grass Roots Prairie Kitchen.
Delicious on its own, you can also choose to make
it a Steppe Meal, complete with potato
wedges or buckwheat, and then choose from a salad,
coleslaw, or a 6 oz. bowl of steaming hot borscht.
